Starting Late

… but finishing with a smile

Keeping the “Streak” Alive

I managed to keep my “streak” alive with another full week of winter running in shorts.

This morning’s long run started off at 35F but there was little wind and as the sun rose higher the temperature climbed, too. The Valley Forge River Trail was in the best condition I’ve seen for weeks. The normal muddy spots were mostly iced over so it wasn’t too sloppy.

I took it easy this morning because I had developed a little left hip problem during the week. It just felt like something was out of alignment, and occasionally I’d get a twinge when shifting my weight onto my left leg (not when running). It still felt out this morning but after my 11-mile run, it feels like it’s gone! I’m never sure when to run through an injury or soreness, but it seems to have worked out this time.

Weekly Recap

Mon. – 5.06 miles

Tues – 5.82 miles (logged 2500th mile); Rowing Machine and Strength Circuit at YMCA

Wed – Swimming laps at the YMCA (a bit more than a half mile); Whirlpool

Thurs – 6.31 miles (birthday run – 1/10 mile per year); Strength Circuit at YMCA

Sat – 11.01 miles

So, how long will I be able to keep wearing shorts? The forecast looks favorable for next week…

Nice! I love this weather, it’s been excellent. Great week of running and workouts, hope the shorts reappear next week and the hip soreness stays away.
